Brief Summary
A primary function of the Lead is to assist the Mid-size department supervisor(s) to ensure that employees on his/her assigned shift have the tools, equipment, and material they need to manufacture product per customer requests and Valmont specifications. The Lead will also be responsible for facilitating daily pre-shift meetings and will assist in the training of new team members. The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong interpersonal skills and will be expected to serve as a positive role-model for others by demonstrating safe work habits, a strong commitment to quality and efficiency, and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
Essential Functions
· Facilitate daily pre-shift meetings daily with all shift employees, including safety, daily workload review, and communication of other relevant information as needed
· Communicate daily work assignments, scan prints, and maintain schedules
· Use forklift to move parts or tubes in order to keep line flowing efficiently
· Complete daily foreman’s report
· Identify employee performance problems, investigate, document, notify supervisor of results and provide recommendations
· Coordinate work with other internal departments (small parts, large pole, paint, galvanizing, material handling, and maintenance)
· Maintain accurate daily record keeping and documents as required
· Lead or serve on department task force teams as needed
· Lead training of new employees
· Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring that all employees use appropriate PPE and comply with all safety policies and procedures
· Coordinate scheduling as needed to ensure necessary overlap assignments to cover vacancies
· Track reject tags, follow up tags with employees, and assign rework to be completed
· Orders supplies as needed
Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 3+ years of welding knowledge
• Ability to operate a forklift
• Proficient in the use of common shop mathematics, and the ability to read and interpret complex prints and standard specifications
• Ability to use measuring instruments such as tape measure, heat stick-method for determining temperature of plate material, weld gauges, tri-square, and inclinometer
• Ability to train others in the manufacture of product per shop drawings
• Skill in keeping accurate records, inventory, inspecting finished product for quality, and stron attention to detail
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to apply sound judgment and to work independently toward team and department goals
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to co-workers, supervisors, and employees from other departments
• The ability to work overtime as needed
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
