A Brief Summary of This Position:
The incumbent is accountable for the manufacturing processes and methods of production of various division products. The incumbent is responsible for moderately complex engineering projects with an emphasis on electrical/mechanical equipment from design to implementation in accordance with the company’s policies. Supervises assigned technical associates and coordinates all work within the scope of assigned projects. Serves as a consultant to others assigned, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with various projects and training purposes. The position requires the ability to plan and apply the practices of manufacturing; to research and develop the tools, processes, machines, and equipment; and to integrate the facilities and systems for producing quality products with optimal expenditure and an emphasis on continuous improvement and cost reduction.
Maintain and develop, where necessary, detailed routing sheets which specify operational sequences, establish bills of materials, cost centers, tooling, gauges, machines, feeds and speeds, etc., by analyzing blueprints and parts specifications.
Assist Manufacturing to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality.
Establish and maintain schedules for completing approved projects.
Provide technical support for manufacturing activities (e.g., plant layout, process mapping, programming, engineering calculations, etc.).
Conduct machine and equipment investigations including preparation of justification for new equipment or alternate processes.
Develop and coordinate material handling methods and devices to facilitate the processing of both finished products and raw materials.
Develop and provide support on reports and forms containing all data to measure manufacturing performance to plan.
Provide and maintain Quality Assurance programs in the division to reduce scrap and rejects.
Provides direction and training for Engineers, Tool and Die, Maintenance, and Production personnel on projects, tasks and CNC equipment
Design and implement tooling or machines to support or improve the manufacturing process.
Provide and obtain sources of and cost estimates for various farm-out activities as required.
Support necessary CNC operational machines for programming and facilitate shop interaction of these programs through the one interface.
Assist various manufacturing departments in providing necessary engineering data where safety is related to ergonomics or other concerns.
Support Safety goals and objectives of the division and departments to help fulfill Safety by Objective goals.
Support simultaneous engineering in the areas of team work, communication and engineering input at various levels.
Assist in further development of TPM, PM, and SMED.
Establish process work instructions for various production machines.
Provide Mfg. Engineering support for various domestic and international sites
Other Important Details about the Role:
The primary function of this position is to provide Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering support and assistance to the manufacturing organization to meet divisional objectives in cost reduction, equipment replacement, capital equipment acquisition and facilities. This position is responsible for developing process plans for new products/parts or changes to existing products/parts including off-site facilities design, layout, and start-up.
The incumbent will be required to work under minimum supervision to independently and demonstrate the initiative through advanced manufacturing technology, new equipment, and methods improvement and material.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with 6+ years preferred relevant experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
The ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Thorough understanding of fabrication and welding procedures, process including QA requirements and methods
Proven history or problem solving in an environment involving welding, press working, CNC machining, tooling, saws, and material handling robots.
Experience with AutoCad, Creo, Solidworks
Aptitude of making decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity
Expert attention to detail
Advanced skills in using Microsoft Suite including Access
Manufacturing QAD: experience with routing, bills of material, cost, items, and inventory
Shipping and warehouse management
Strong mathematical skills including statistics, work measurement
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes with an emphasis on electrical mechanical equipment and processes used at Valmont.
5 years of experience within Valmont Irrigation or equivalent experience in similar industry.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. There will be exposure to a manufacturing environment or outside weather conditions. When visiting a manufacturing area, the incumbent will be required to wear all mandatory personal protective equipment. When working in the production areas, the incumbent may be exposed to welding fumes, noise, seasonal temperature changes, dirt, oil and other solvents. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Domestic and/or International travel, including overnights, may be required up to 5%. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. The incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
