A Brief Summary of This Position

This is an individual contributor position accountable for all activities that pertain to the operation of the Profiling Machine in the Mid-Size facility. These activities include machine setups, transferring assembly data to the machine, interpreting and confirming this data against production assembly prints and monitoring machine functions during operation. The machine functions include: loading and unloading of poles, length and OD measurements, drilling, plasma marking and high definition plasma cutting. The operator is responsible for cut edge quality and dimensional accuracy (both radial and longitudinal) of plasma marks, end cuts, profile cutouts and drilled holes.

Essential Functions:

  • Machine programming

  • Profiles shafts in the machine

  • Setup machine to run varied product

  • Operates overhead crane to remove product from machine

  • Inspect each shaft once cut to ensure that the Profiler has processed the shaft to the assembly print without any major issues. Issues can include miscut holes, holes in the wrong location, sequences skipped, etc.

  • Ability to make mathematical calculations in preparing to run equipment or programming equipment

  • Set up machines to the proper requirements so that usable parts are produced

  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and knowing when is the opportune time to schedule based on the production schedule

  • Flexible running as the operator and crane operator for the machine when needed to keep the line running efficiently

  • When issues are seen when comparing the Profiler program with the assembly print, correct for proper processing or contacting engineering in order to correct

  • When downtime occurs the operators perform 80% of the work in determining the problem and fixing the issue prior to brining in maintenance to assist in issues beyond their expertise

Important Details about the Role

  • This position reports into shop’s Production Supervisor

  • Perform scheduled 5S duties and operator assigned PMs

  • Basic familiarity with the IFS business system

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • High School Diploma

  • 7+ years of relevant experience

  • Ability to use both regular and OD tape measures

  • Basic computer skills required in order to navigate through Microsoft based systems or similar operating system

  • Ability to setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty

  • Ability to make mathematical calculation in preparing product or setting up the machinery

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds maximum with most frequent lift being 20 pounds

  • Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Experience with automated or semi-automated plasma cutting manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to read and decipher blue prints and flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly weld scheduled work

  • Knowledge of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices

  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors and conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

  • Actively participate in department LEAN activities off the department, and demonstrated performance working in a team environment
