A Brief Summary of This Position
The Looper Operator is responsible for maintaining a continuous strip of material between the uncoiler and the tube mill to enable a continuous operation. Duties include operation of an overhead crane and various other equipment for unloading and handling heavy coils of steel. The Looper Operator must be able to operate hydraulic systems and set up the entire driving system on the mill. The position will also assist the mill operator and cutoff operator as needed.
Weld coils together to maintain a continuous strip of material between the uncoiler and tube mill in enable continuous process flow
Load/unload steel coils on a coil tree using and overhead crane
Use a tape measure and micrometer to ensure product meets all quality requirements
Provide assistance during set ups on the mill as needed
Maintain complete records of all coils used during the shift including width, gauge, pounds, and footage of each coil
Maintain a clean and orderly work area and operate the floor scrubber occasionally as time allows
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
1-3 years of relevant work experience
Ability to read and write legibly
Ability to use decimals and fractions, converting both ways
Ability to operate a hand-held overhead crane
Able to operate a forklift and obtain a Valmont forklift license within 30 days
Able to lift ends of steel coils weighing up to 50 pounds
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Experience with a stick welder, wire welder, strip welder, plasma cutter, or cutting torch
Experience operating a hand-held overhead crane
