A Brief Summary of This Position:

The IT Analytical Engineer is part of the IT Data & Analytics team. This group is responsible for capturing data from numerous disparate sources of all types, modeling it & transforming it into simple information models, and working with all the various business partners within the organization to deliver actionable insights. This role will develop technical solutions and strategies for business intelligence needs; help to build and support Valmont’s self-service analytics platform; understand and work with business partners to fulfill their data and information needs; gather requirements from assigned business teams, and work with Data Engineers to build out the data models; have a deep understanding of BI tools and determine how they can be implemented to automate processes for end users within the business.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports into the Manager Enterprise Data Warehouse and has no direct or indirect reports

  • This role requires no travel

  • Flexible schedule; work in the office 1 day a week

  • Build and support Self-Service solutions for Business Analysts, Stakeholders, and other Business Partners

  • Assist in the development of Business Intelligence, Visualization, and Data Science policies and procedures as part of the Valmont Data & Analytics Center of Excellence

  • Develop Information marts for mining and reporting on production databases with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Data owners and Department managers

  • Identify research questions, problem solve using analytical tools, and communicate the results to various stakeholders

  • Apply Agile, Waterfall or other similar Application lifecycle methodology to develop the solutions

  • Ensure enterprise data warehouse solutions created under his/her responsibility adhere to departmental standards, appropriate controls and audit trails exist, and are thoroughly tested prior to installation in production environment

  • Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for visualization and analytical services across the organization

  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to Information Marts

  • Create business data dictionary for new Information Mart development and/or changes to existing ones

  • Determine required network components to ensure data access, as well as data consistency and integrity

  • Develop routines for end users to facilitate best-practice use of analytical and visualization tools

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years relevant experience or Associate’s degree with 5 years relevant experience or 7 years of relevant experience

  • Three years of accumulated professional experience in the following areas:

  • Business intelligence and data warehouse development technologies: Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server & TSQL Procedures

  • Database development experience: Oracle/SQL Server

  • Dimensional data modeling design and implementation

  • Data warehouse monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning

  • Strong familiarity with business analytics and visualizations

  • Familiarity of Data Science concepts & tools

  • Basic understanding of Machine Learning Models and ML Ops Delivery Pipelines

  • Understanding of Information marts, data models, structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • Working technical experience with relational databases

  • Working knowledge of cloud based analytical tools

  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives

  • Involvement in inter-departmental projects and experience communicating with various stakeholders

  • Ability and desire to learn the manufacturing and business process supported by IT

  • Customer service mindset, and problem-solving skillset

  • Strong interpersonal communication and training skillsets

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science or MIS

  • Experience working in an Agile environment

  • Certifications in Tableau and/or Microsoft Power Platform.

  • Experience with Python or R

  • Working experience with Machine Learning models (regression, classification, and applied statistics/probability)

  • Working experience with ML Ops & Repository tools

  • Experience with Cloud Database Services: Microsoft Azure SQL Database, Databricks, & Synapse, Snowflake, SAP Hana Cloud

  • Strong history of delivering value added solutions to business users

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
