A Brief Summary

This position is responsible for the overall inspection process for the tubing department. The Inspector checks tubing for flaws in the weld area, the steel itself, and the finished tube. This includes straightness, length, ovality, wall thickness, I.D., flash control, and overall surface quality. The Inspector will ensure finished product is treated with the proper rust preventatives. The position will also check and record C.I.R. information when required, secure required samples for analysis, and stencil tubing with required information to include size, gauge, length, customer order number, material heat number, coil tag number, and coil vendor name. Will insure accurate counts of finished tube. Will record information required on inspection sheets, production cards, and met lab reports on Epic Terminal. Will be able to adjust the Turkshead and pull through sections to make round, straight, and dimensionally acceptable tubing. Will be responsible for the completion of all Q.A. median charts for all tubing ran. Must be able to use computer printer for stenciling. Also, SPC entries on computer.

Essential Functions

  • Inspect products in the tubing department for flaws in the weld area, the steel itself, and the finished tube

  • Verify that tubes produced meet quality standards for straightness, length, ovality, wall thickness, I.D., flash control, and overall surface quality

  • Ensure finished product is treated with proper rust preventatives as required

  • Check and record C.I.R. information when required

  • Secure appropriate samples for analysis when required

  • Stencil tubing with required information including size, gauge, length, customer order number, material heat number, coil tag number, and coil vendor name

  • Ensure accurate counts of finished tube

  • Record information on inspection sheets, production cards, and met lab reports on Epic Terminal

  • Responsible for the completion of all Q.A. median charts for tubing produced

  • Enter SPC data on computer as required

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to pass the Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) accreditation from the American Society for Quality (ASQ-CQI) within the first three years from starting the position

  • 2 years’ previous Quality Assurance experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

  • Able to multiply, divide, add and subtract proficiently

  • Must have sufficient mathematical skills to be able to use both decimals and fractions, converting both ways

  • Ability to use both imperial and metric measuring systems

  • Able to use tape measures, micrometers, dial indicators, radius gauges and PI tapes along with other basic shop tools

  • Must be able to read and write legibly

  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet business needs

  • The ability to safely lift up to 20 pounds frequently throughout the shift

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license

  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
