A Brief Summary of This Position

The Fluter Operator is an individual contributor who operates the Fluter machine, inspecting, repairing and straightening shafts, and provide training to the Fluter operator helper. The incumbent operates overhead crane, plate blaster, and forklift and maintains the fluter equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Organize work schedule and materials for continuous operations

  • Set up and operate the Fluter machine according to the work instruction

  • Coordinates quality assurance of the material

  • Operate machinery and equipment such as fork lift, bridge crane, band saw, and pole straightener

  • Maintain good housekeeping in the area exercising safety precautions in accordance with company policies

  • Take accurate precision measurements and occasionally use other gauges and dials when inspecting materials to assure that material meets Valmont’s specifications

  • Lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is 20 pounds

  • Stand, stoop, bend, sit and squat for up to 100% of the shift

  • Drive forklifts of various capacities

  • Operate overhead crane

  • Work in non-temperature controlled work environment, as well as work outdoors

  • Wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) for working in the production facility Important Details about the Role

  • Demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

  • Perform various other duties requested by the supervisor to ensure customer requests are met

  • This position reports to the Small Pole department’s Production Supervisor

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals

  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

  • Read and write clearly

  • Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED equivalent

  • One (1) year of previous experience operating a forklift

  • Accurately read and use a tape measure, compass , micrometer, mag level, protractor, versa gauge, and caliper

  • Ability to locate information from a computer

  • Proficient at math

  • Proficient in reading blueprints

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and IFS

  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
