A Brief Summary of This Position

The Fab Tech B incumbent will be an individual contributor within the Valmont Machine Builders department. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing blueprints and manufacturing the end product using various tools and equipment, including performing welding tasks. Additional responsibilities will including rigging multiple loads, working with hydraulic equipment and operating industrial equipment including but not limited to forklifts. The incumbent will work with various divisions with the Valmont family and must provide a professional and positive attitude. This position will require travel both domestically and internationally at time.

Essential Functions

  • Perform welding functions

  • Interpreting blueprints to accomplish end goal product results

  • Must operate necessary machines and industrial equipment (lathe, cutting torch, forklifts, overhead cranes)

  • Must have sufficient math skills

  • Must be a team player

  • Must have basic machining skills

  • Must have some rigging experience

  • Must understand basic hydraulic theory

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must take responsibility for performing field repairs as needed

  • This position will require travel up to 25% (domestically and internationally) for period of up to two weeks, occasionally longer

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to pass hands-on test and score minimum 82.5% on written Technician Mechanical test.

  • Must be B-Welder certified and demonstrate competency in MIG and STICK welding.

  • Ability to operate saw, iron worker, shear, cutting torch, drill press, lathe, and mill, brake press.

  • Must be able to operate forklift, man lift, P&H crane and overhead crane.

  • Must understand and maintain Utility Jacking devices.

  • Knowledge of and experience with hydraulic theory.

  • Have ability to interpret complex blueprints as well as work from verbal instructions.

  • Must possess sufficient math skills with ability to convert fractions and decimals. Some metric conversions and trigonometry required.

  • This position will require travel up to 25% (domestically and internationally) for period of up to two weeks, occasionally longer

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Graduate of manufacturing related technical training program or equivalent experience in related field (i.e. machining).
