A Brief Summary of This Position:
This Individual Contributor position is responsible for providing the necessary liaison between all departments of the company, agents and the customer to assure that orders requiring engineering/drafting involvement are transmitted with accurate and complete information necessary for efficient development of the proper product. Areas of responsibility include: Create a bill of material, customer drawing and customer documents within the confines of internal engineering standards and procedures utilizing various computer programs. Document the bill of material, drawing and analysis process for each product line. Assist in the development of standard customer specifications, internal. Serve the needs of the organizations' customers both internally and externally in an expeditious manner maintaining a friendly and cooperative nature. Interact with the production staff to ensure the understanding and accuracy of the production drafting process. Serve as a customer service representative when dealing with technical questions from our agents and customers.
This position reports to the Drafting Supervisor and has no direct or indirect reports
Review of sales order and customer specifications to ensure project accuracy
Prepare bill of material for projects
Coordinate with drafters for new part number creation
Utilize Valmont applications to search and retrieve similar parts for project use
Support customer drawing preparations
Assist in maintaining the parts database
Support roll-out of new product to the standard product line through training
Support aftermarket sales
Maintain a cooperative attitude in dealing with all departments of the company, agents and the customer
Work directly with the Drafting Supervisor to review orders and insure they are complete and correct
Arrange the order information in a way that is easy for the engineer or drafter to use
Work with the Drafting Supervisor to manage the efficient order flow and backlog of unprocessed orders
Interface effectively with all departments of the company, agents and the customer
Maintain an awareness of current engineering/drafting and marketing requirements
Support all departments of the company in any area that will enhance product and company interest
Handle special assignments as requested by the Drafting Supervisor
Review the latest customer plans/specifications. Notify all departments within the company affected by any changes
Maintain and update an accurate and complete filing and record keeping system of customer requirements
Provide support to the total departmental function
Recommend/Develop changes to standard designs that might improve customer acceptance to reduce costs
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
Other Important Details about the Role:
The Engineering Technician is expected to consult with the Drafting Supervisor on a limited basis. Therefore, he/she should possess a broad knowledge of departmental and company goals, policies, and procedures and the product lines represented. This individual should also possess the capability of prudent, "on the spot" decision-making. The incumbent interfaces between all departments of the company, agents and the customer for the purpose of providing the information necessary to assure the product developed is in compliance with the customer requirements. This position works directly with the Drafting Supervisor to insure orders are complete and correct so further processing by drafting can be done efficiently and in compliance with the customer requirements. This position works directly with the Drafting Supervisor to transmit information to drafting and to manage the engineering/drafting backlog. This position is also responsible for the handling of special requests from agents/customers by phone, fax, email or letter and must be knowledgeable of current marketing and engineering/drafting requirements. The incumbent must possess the product and system knowledge required to enable him/her to recognize incomplete or conflicting quote, order, or other requested information. This position provides guidance and feedback to the sales and quotes personnel when specific customer requirements exist or have been modified.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
High School diploma and 4+ years of work/educational experience or Associate degree
Computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Interpersonal relationship and leadership skills
Ability to understand and analyze engineering details, project plans and specifications
Ability to work and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrate problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Demonstrate excellence with interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Acceptable prior performance and attendance record
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or similar
Solidworks, Product Data Management (PDM), Data Modeling
Computer Aided Drafting skills
Three years of Commercial and Transportation experience. Experience with traffic product is a plus.
Manufacturing and/or production experience in steel/metal facility
Two years experience in metal fabrication and assembly work
Process and methods knowledge and experience used in Lean Manufacturing
Quality background, education or experience
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
