A Brief Summary of This Position:
This Individual Contributor role is primarily responsible for auditing quality management system (QMS) components and performance within the Utility product and service lines. It requires an understanding of the Utility product, how manufactured including inspection requirements for each product feature, and a basic understanding of how the product is to be installed and function (in use). Additionally, this position requires the ability to train for and complete certification in three areas of Nondestructive Testing (NDT): Visual (VT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Ultrasonic (UT).
This position will work directly with multiple departments within the Valmont Utility group, such as manufacturing sites, customer service managers, product managers, project administrators, account managers, field quality assurance teams, other auditors and quality assurance trainers, etc.
As with many of the roles within the QA (Quality Assurance) organization, this position shall be called upon to support other events, such as internal product and process audits, customer pre-production manufacturing evaluations, technical sales assistance, etc.
This position reports to the Manager Quality Management System and has no direct or indirect reports
This role requires up to 80% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
Assist with third party audits/inspections
Verify inspection data
Ability to utilize Quality Management System (QMS) to track work and manage claims
Ability to accurately document and describe quality non-compliances and nonconformance in written reports
Ability to monitor compliance with customer specifications and Utility work instructions and specifications
Ability to interact professionally with clients and co-workers
Ability to perform simple repairs such as coating touch up, oversee minor repair welds, etc. independently
Conduct business on behalf of the Company in full compliance with the laws of the many jurisdictions in which we operate
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 pounds
Ability to perform manual labor while in the field, wear all necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and work in an environment where there is exposure to various weather elements
Other Important Details about the Role:
Assist with vendor management audits
Basic knowledge and ability to apply common industry code standards (ASTM, AWS, AISC)
Assist with system, process, and product audits on behalf of Valmont
Quality Corrective Action Request (QCAR) oversight/tracking
Assist with pre-production visits by the customer and/or their designate
Provide assurance to the customer the quality system is in place to ensure their product will be produced correctly
Provide on-site support to long-term field projects
General knowledge of manufacturing specifications
Completes audits of products and processes in the field and in the manufacturing process
Audits products delivered to customer sites for conformance to specifications
Identifies and maintains quality performance data and metrics
Oversee the remedy including performing final inspection if necessary
Ability to assess customer quality concerns, determine root cause, and make recommendations to the commercial support team for resolution
May serve as Field Quality Assurance Representative
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or Associate’s degree with 3+ years of experience or 5+ years of relevant quality experience
Ability to travel up to 80% domestically – some international possible
Ability to obtain SNT-TC-1A (American Society of Nondestructive Testing recommended practice number) VT Level II, MT Level II, and UT Level II, AWS-CWI (American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector), NACE CIP (National Association of Corrosion Engineers Coating Inspection Program) Level 1 within 24-30 months of position acceptance.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Three years of experience in metals fabrication including welding, and one year of experience working in a Quality Control and/or Quality Assurance capacity
One year of experience working in a Quality Control and/or Quality Assurance group as an inspector
One year of inspection training
One year of non-destructive testing experience
NACE CIP Level 2
Ability to interpret standard U.S. and metric measurements
Ability to understand and use industry standard mathematical equations and formulas
Ability to write legible reports and summarize findings
Ability to read and comprehend technical data
Finished coating specification knowledge
Demonstrated problem solving ability
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in the field including Utility installation sites, Valmont manufacturing sites, and customer or vendor manufacturing sites. When the incumbent is in the field, the employee may need to deal with hot, cold, rainy or windy conditions. While working on-site or visiting the manufacturing locations, use of necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required at all times. The work environment can be demanding. In addition to exposure to the elements, the incumbent will be required to perform physically demanding labor to include digging, climbing, working at heights, lifting, bending, stooping, and kneeling. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques. Domestic and international travel represents up to 80% of the work schedule and includes transportation by vehicle and by air. This position requires movement around the office and fields as well as the ability to drive a vehicle to and from the various work sites including the occasional transportation of other team members. This position may require lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, pivoting, reaching, standing, climbing stairs, handling, gripping, grasping and visually inspecting equipment parts. Overall the physical effort level is considered moderate to heavy when in the field. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
