The ideal candidate would be based out of Denver, Colorado or willing to relocate to Denver, Colorado. Omaha, Nebraska will be an alternate location for this position.
A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Advanced Software Engineer is responsible for the architectural design, development, and deployment of complex software applications. These applications (products) are used globally, by Valmont’s customers, and can be a mix of Cloud Based software and applications and/or embedded software/firmware on Valmont solar tracker hardware/devices. This Individual Contributor will be involved with highly technical projects that will have evolving opportunities. This incumbent will design modern applications for adaptation to multiple Web browsers, skin sizes and mobile devices. The Advanced Software Engineer will work as part a team and divide large and complex systems into manageable subsystems that can be handled by individual software engineers or other IT professionals.
This position reports to the Vice President & General Manager – Global Solar and has no direct or indirect reports
This role requires up to 5% travel domestically, including overnight stays
Flexible schedule however must be able to work in the office 2-3 days per week
Defines system solutions based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms.
Develops and socializes architecture strategies, standards, and guidelines
Researches, identifies, selects, and tests technology products required for solution delivery
Design the architecture of complex computer applications composed of numerous software components, like a user interface, Application Program Interfaces (APIs), database queries/SQL, embedded firmware, etc.
Develops new systems as well as make significant changes to current systems
Provide project management to meet customer needs-budget, features, and performance
Mentor and support peers on projects as well as day to day tasks
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
Proven attention to detail and accuracy within a fast-paced environment
Experience working with Developers, Business Analysts, Quality Analysts, Product Owners and Engineering teams in SCRUM/Agile frameworks
Knowledge of the material, costs, techniques, and processes used within the area to deliver an infrastructure solution at a minimal cost to the enterprise
The ability to work well in team environment and exercise technical leadership in planning, directing, controlling, and coordinating team activities in support of product development
Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results on system design and solutions required to support the enterprise
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Prior experience working with Solar trackers
Prior experience working with SCADA systems
Infrastructure Creation and Management
Experience developing software/firmware in an Agile work environment
Knowledge of Public clouds and cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure
Experience in the following technology:
Microsoft Azure, Dev Ops, Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts
Vime, MySqlpp, Curl
Restful APIs, JSON
Embedded firmware C/C++/assembly
Communications: RS-232, RS-485, NMEA, TCP/IP, UDP, and Modbus

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting, however, there may be needs to visit production areas. While visiting the production areas, proper PPE is required. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Up to 5% overnight travel with overnight stays are required for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and plant. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
