Valmont Industries, Steele, Alabama location is seeking an individual for a Truck Driver position in the Shipping and Receiving department. We are looking for a motivated individual to operate a Valmont tractor-trailer (flatbed) to pick-up and/or deliver Valmont products safely and efficiently. This driver generally runs Monday through Friday 7AM – 3:30PM. Pick up and deliveries are within Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Driver is home every evening.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate equipment and vehicles safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury

  • Maintain compliance with Federal Motor Carrer Safety Regulations (FMCSR) Department of Transportation (DOT) hours of service (HOS) described in Part 395 of the FMCSR, utilizing Omnitracs HOS Electronic Logging Device (ELD) module

  • Maintain all necessary Department of Transportation (DOT) papers for record keeping requirements

  • Perform daily vehicle inspections on tractor and trailer as required under Part 393 and 396 of the FMCSR

  • Preform daily inspection of straps, chains and binders to ensure compliance with Part 393.102 of the FMCSR

  • Properly secure cargo utilizing compliant straps, chains and binders

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as per section 383 of the FMCSR

  • Be physically qualified to operate a commercial vehicle and obtain a Medical Examiners Certificate as the the requirements of Subpart E, Section 391 of the FMCSR

  • Two years of previous experience driving a commercial truck or semi trailer or flatbed trailer in a professional environment

  • Knowledge of flatbed load securement

  • The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment

  • The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions

  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times

  • Wear required PPE

  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in extreme weather conditions

  • Calculate simple mathematics and accurately read a tape measure

  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

  • Be a team player in a diverse group assisting in other areas/in other ways as needed or when idle.

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • One year of previous experience operating a forklift

  • Two years of previous experience operating a truck w/flatbed trailer

  • One year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions

  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

Working Conditions

This position will be driving an over the road tractor throughout their shift.

The employee is exposed to an outdoor working environment as they secure their cargo and inspect their equipment. The nature of the industry results in heat and humidity in the summer and cold winter conditions. The employee will need to perform a variety of physical activities at varying amounts of time: lift/carry/grasp, push/pull, bend, squat/kneel, twist/turn, climb, crawl, reach, stand, walk, sit.

Hazards associated with this job are primarily weather related. Climbing in and out of the tractor (3 points of contact). Possible overexertion from securing and or strapping cargo. Traffic, accidents, fatigue, slips, trips, and strains.
