A Brief Summary of This Position:
The UNIX System Administrator position will have responsibility for managing UNIX systems environments. The UNIX System Administrator will work with a global team to provide world-wide coverage of UNIX systems and availability in compliance of Segregation of Duty defined by Corporate Systems Security. Also responsible for ensuring data reliability with a consistent retention plan, back up and restorations. Will develop, document and implement best-practice standards for the administration, management of UNIX systems, leading peers in the implementation of these standards, communicating standards, providing consultancy for UNIX environment concerns, and reporting to management the operational status of the server environment.
Monitor and maintain UNIX application availability
Provide UNIX security administration in accordance with Corporate policies and segregation of duties
Ensure data reliability by planning, implementing and testing backup and restore procedures
Coordinate with users and application vendors to support to resolve any issues
Install system patches and modules and deploy custom modules and programs
Develop best practices and documents system configuration
Support efforts to identify and communicate to management non-compliance with the Code of Business Conduct or other violations of policy or illegal actions
Execute of control activities in areas of responsibility
This position reports into the Manager Enterprise Systems and has no direct reports
This role may require occasional travel up to 5% (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of Linux, Sun Solaris & Microsoft System administration
Familiarity with Linux networking and firewall configuration
knowledge of basic scripting languages, such as Bourne shell, Perl and/or Python
Understanding of Code of Business Conduct
Effective communication skills, both written and oral
Energetic and self-motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperatively with project and infrastructure teams
Strong working knowledge of proactive and auto-corrective monitoring practices
Fluent in English
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Preferred Bachelors in Computer Science
Experience supporting and implementing ERP Disaster Recovery solutions
Familiarity with configuration management applications
Experience with RedHat and/or CentOS linux
Fluent in other languages
Project Management certifications
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
