A Brief Summary of This Position:

Serves as a key strategic member of the Executive Team and is an officer of the company reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Responsible for orchestrating, implementing and monitoring all phases of information technology administration for the enterprise. This position is accountable for the Corporate Information Technology function which includes serving as the primary interface to four global segments’ Senior Management and IT Directors on systems and technology issues, and matching IT resources and priorities to Corporate and Division strategy. This individual coordinates all Valmont IT groups in a Federated IT Model relative to common strategic information technology issues, IT planning, and standards development and enforcement. This position is responsible for all global data centers, the Valmont Wide Area Network, including functionality and reliability of all local area networks, IT Security, Internet access, email, and voice communications. This position is also responsible for all corporate applications, such as Workday, Hyperion, Acorde, and other SaaS applications that are used across the organization. This person leads the IT Steering Committee and interfaces with Executive Committee as well as the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Essential Functions:

  • Select, organize, train, develop, and motivate a strong technical/team to assure high levels of productivity, the best use of individual and group capabilities and appropriate career planning for all personnel.

  • Develop and recommend the department budget, monitor approved budget, note deviations, and initiate correct actions in order to control costs and report to top management on department performance and planning efforts.

  • Review and recommend relevant policies and procedures and assure their complete implementation to assure operational control, effective risk management, regulatory compliance and report to the Board of Directors Audit Committee on a regular basis.

  • Provide strategic direction in the use of information technology for the corporation including recommending new and/or enhanced technologies, reviewing plans and activities with the business units, and coordinating information technology plans and projects.

  • Evaluate new technical developments and investments (hardware and software) that will advance enterprise objectives. Apply ideas from other industries, situations, and companies to support growth and market expansion.

  • Provide leadership in utilization of information technology throughout the corporation including significant interaction with the executive leadership of the Company in developing IT strategy and providing outstanding service to the various business units to help them meet their objectives.

  • Manage data center operations, including computer hardware, Wide Area Network equipment and Local Area Network equipment and related infrastructure.

  • Manage the corporate applications, including Workday, email, Hyperion, and Acorde.

  • Manage the multiple information and communications systems and projects.

  • Manage global Polycom video conferencing with +100 endpoints.

  • Leverage the content management system in order to manage/update 60+ Company websites and +200 domains.

  • Oversee multiple SaaS systems including Blackline FCM, Hyperion HFM/FDM Mercury Gate TMS, AIC Environmental Health and Safety, Expense Management, etc.

  • Negotiates with all major IT vendors and contracts.

  • This position supervises 8 direct reports and a total team of approximately 200.

  • This role requires up to 30%) travel internationally and domestically, including overnight stays.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in business, computer science, engineering or related field.

  • Ten years of IT professional level experience with a minimum of 5 years mid to upper management experience in IT with multiple ERP applications.

  • Must show a career track of progressive IT roles.

  • Experience should include roles in deploying business applications and oversight of computer operations, programming, and system design.

  • Proven oral and written communication skills to clearly and concisely present information and complex technology concepts.

  • Familiarity/expertise in Lean methodologies.

  • Contract negotiation experience at an enterprise level.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.

  • Experience with engineering technologies.

  • Experience with QAD and/or IFS.

  • Manufacturing or operational experience with an understanding of manufacturing costs.

  • Understanding of a Federated IT Model.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
