This individual contributor position serves as a vital team member of the IT Systems Engineering group. The incumbent must be able to handle problems and requests in a timely fashion while always maintaining a high level of exceptional customer service and professionalism. Travel is required for this position, and it can be domestic or international, up to 50%. This position is responsible for: 1) Managing and maintaining systems across the enterprise, ensuring a high level of monitoring and business continuity; 2) Applying proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments; and 3) Providing IT project coordination. The IT Systems Engineer performs or assists in the installation, upgrade, configuration and administration of Server hardware, Virtualization solutions, and Operating systems. Software and hardware utilized includes All Microsoft Windows Server / Desktop Operating Systems, Microsoft Active Directory, O365, Lenovo and Dell Hardware, Nutanix AHV and VMWare ESX.

Essential Functions:
This position reports to the Senior Manager Global IT Operations and has no direct or indirect reports.
Ability to travel up to 50% (international/domestic) of the time as required to remote data centers and locations in support of company projects, directives, and initiatives.
Develop and maintain Information Technology operational processes and tasks.
Collaborate with network, security, and enterprise staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for server equipment performance, resource allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT Shared Services management team.
Perform ongoing hardware and software maintenance operations, including installing or upgrading hardware or software.
Create required reports in response to business user needs.
Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Use appropriate tools to review, monitor, and manage schedule project timelines and milestones as required by changing conditions.
Develop and manage work breakdown structure (WBS) of information technology projects.
Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies.
Schedule and facilitate meetings related to information technology projects.
Able to work safely in shop environments.
Able to run and terminate network cabling per standards (CAT5e, CAT6).
Able to run and terminate fiber to standards (62.5 and 50 micron).
Able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair network transport layer issues.
Able to work at heights and operate man-lift equipment.
Important Details about the Role:
Maintain a high degree of self-directed activity.
Work closely with Network, Security and Enterprise Engineers to collaborate on system related matters, conduct tests, reviews, and documents system performance to ensure current business needs and potential future demands are met with the best technology solution available.
Has the ability to research potential resolutions to complex issues regarding hardware and software support for the end user.
Collaborate with Network, Security and Enterprise Engineers to support installation of system hardware and software at any Valmont location to ensure that security is properly executed, maintained, and tracked. Co-administer Windows patching and updates, and utilizing Software Deployment Tools for systems at all Valmont locations around the globe.
Responsible for properly tracking and documenting all system problems, changes, and problem resolutions using the company trouble ticketing system.
Handle problems that arise in a timely fashion, even when under severe time constraints and extreme pressure.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelor’s with 2+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 4+ years relevant experience or 6+ years of relevant experience.
2+ years systems engineering experience in an enterprise level environment.
Experience in Virtualization technologies and Microsoft products.
Experience supporting and implementing Disaster Recovery solutions.
Experience in Production Control disciplines and Change Management.
Working knowledge of Linux and Windows System Administration.
Experience with VMWare ESXi and Nutanix AHV Hypervisors.
Proficient in troubleshooting both system and application issues.
Experience with Windows Server Update Services technologies/applications.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft’s Active Directory user/computer administration.
Basic knowledge of networking devices and TCP/IP protocol.
Experience wiring network cabinets.
Experience operating man lifts (scissor and boom).
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, identify and replace components on computers and peripheral equipment.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
Demonstrated ability to configure personal computers for network operations.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds from a floor or table position using a proper lifting technique.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving and analytical ability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or CIS.
Energetic and self-motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperatively with project and infrastructure teams.
Strong working knowledge of proactive and auto-corrective monitoring practices.
Microsoft, VMWare, or Nutanix Certifications.
2+ years experience as a Network Administrator or Systems Analyst.
4+ years PC Support work experience in a corporate, retail, or manufacturing setting.
2+ years of experience with VMWare and/or Nutanix.
Experience with fiber types and terminations.
Ability to design and install server and network cabinets with equipment and necessary cable management.
Willingness to comply with international travel regulations and requirements, including immunizations.
