A Brief Summary of This Position:
This position requires a self-motivated, energetic, and talented communications professional with experience writing and managing internal and external business communications. Reporting to the company’s Marketing Director, Brand Strategy, the position requires an eagerness to tackle the challenges of developing and managing high-quality content designed to drive consistency within company-wide messaging, enhance the company’s reputation and increase employee engagement. This position will also work closely with the corporate Human Resources and Global Strategic Marketing teams to ensure alignment on goals and objectives and a consistent, team approach to all internal communications.
Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of corporate communications and ensuring the company’s messages are consistent, engaging and aligned with the Valmont corporate and business segment strategies. The position’s primary duties will include developing an overarching communications strategy for the organization that is inclusive of both content and channel execution leading to creating a best-in-class internal communications program that can be implemented across all of Valmont. The position’s duties will be diverse and multi-faceted, therefore excellent professional skills are vital for this role. The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communications is a must.
Essential Functions:
This position reports to the Marketing Director Brand Strategy and has no reports
Some travel (up to 15%) internationally and domestic, including overnight stays
Develop internal communications content while keeping a schedule of multiple communications that engage and inspire employees
Schedule and timelines will be maintained within official Marketing software tracking tool (currently Jira)
Perform ongoing industry and peer research to develop best-in-class written internal communications processes and content
Develop, implement and execute a Corporate Communications plan, working with key internal stakeholders and partners, including executive leadership teams, to brainstorm content ideas that are aligned with the company’s strategy
Research, recommend and implement effective multi-communication channels to improve employee engagement and streamline internal communications including current Bulletin Board email and Valmont intranet (VO)
Ability to devise effective communication strategies including familiarity with best-in-class communication platforms, information technology, especially digital and video means of communication in an effort to engage as effectively as possible with multiple internal stakeholder groups
Provide proof-reading and editing support to ensure all internal and external communication content is publication-ready, error free and adheres to the Valmont brand voice outlined in the company’s brand guidelines
Support crisis communications planning and response activities
Provide ongoing support in the development and distribution of media alerts for hiring events and other potential needs
Develop and refine communication content for sustainability/ESG efforts as needed
Responsible for the overall service quality of NPS as it relates to internal communication efforts in delivering effective communications to employees
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field with 5+ years of experience or Associate’s Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience
Self-starter who can quickly develop and build rapport and relationships across the organization
Proven experience creating targeted content
Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques
Experience developing content strategies
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong time-management and organizational skills
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Experience working in a public company environment and/or corporate investor relations, and executive management teams
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Some travel requirements for this position (up to 15%) both domestic and international. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
