BASIC FUNCTION:

The position insure that orders are shipped on time to reflect the customer request delivery dates. The person coordinates with Shipping Coordinator, for extracts from the bills of laden and shipping documents to load outbound shipments. This position requires the ability to load rail and over the road hauler correctly for customer service and safety purposes. The Shipper will ensure loads are positioned properly and order procedures are followed. The incumbent will also demonstrate a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission Statement and Corporate Safety’s Critical Success Factors process, provide support to complete 100% of the site SBO Plan. This person will actively participate in department safety; demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors and conforms to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

This person must knowledgeable of governmental environmental regulations and Valmont’s procedures when shipping product and materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

This person must have a high school or equivalent with a minimum of three years shipping experience in truck and rail. The incumbent must know how to perform basic math functions and read and write the English language fluently. This person should have a basic understanding of using computers and how to enter or create data.

NATURE & SCOPE:

Working from the directions of the Supervisor and the Shipping Coordinator this job requires the movement of pole shafts using an overhead crane, forklift, the gathering of parts and materials and loading of rail or truck trailers to complete the order.

This person will load rail cars or truck trailers and must know the product and the weight in order to ensure proper loading.

This person must also be able to express equipment, parts, or procedural problems to the Supervisor or the Shipping Coordinator. The incumbent should know how to complete required reports and enter the appropriate data with accuracy.

This person will operate various pieces of equipment e.g. forklifts, nail guns, banding equipment, electric saws, chain saws etc.

A through knowledge of loading procedures and practices are essential to ensure the quality of the product and safety during transporting.

The incumbent will have to be able to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines. They must also be able to work through problem with the minimum amount of assistance from the supervisor. This will include maintaining a clean work area.

Most of the work performed will be individually or with the assistance of a helper. Essential tools and equipment will be provided, however the accountability and maintenance will be the employee’s responsibility.

This person must be able to perform the requirements of the job, which will include climbing, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasionally working overhead. Inherent welding smoke and metal dust along with various temperature changes can be expected.

The incumbent will be required to wear the required PPE at all times. The basic PPE for all shop personnel will be ear plugs, safety glasses, and metatarsal footwear. This person must be alert to the immediate surroundings to avoid accident or injury. This will include not walking under suspended loads or performing work without the prescribed safety equipment.
