This is an individual contributor position responsible for coordinating freight requirements for products that is cost effective and least susceptible to damage. This includes managing all truck shipments, shipper, and carrier communication. This individual works closely with the shipping and manufacturing departments to accomplish customer needs.
E ss e n t i al Fu n c t i o n s :
• This position reports into the Production Supervisor.
• Responsible for coordinating the routing of inbound and outbound freight to ensure on-time shipments.
• Manages all truck shipments, shipper, and carrier communication.
• Utilizes rates, delivery terms, freight rates, and classifications with carriers as negotiated. Negotiates with freight carriers where possible to minimize freight costs.
• Monitors the flow of materials and resources through the process to ensure on-time delivery.
• Assists customer service in coordinating customer requests, forwarding any additional information as is necessary so that all requests are satisfied.
• Reviews customer orders and production schedules and works closely with the team to coordinate the most cost effective and timely truckload shipments.
• Calculates truckload capacities, such as number of truckloads an order will take, how many poles will fit on a truck, etc.
• Provides high quality service to internal and external stakeholders with an emphasis on problem solving and team building.
• Recommends and implements ways to improve scheduling processes and techniques.
• Other duties/responsibilities as required and/or assigned.
R e qui r ed Qu a li f i c at i o n s o f Ev e r y Ca ndid ate ( E du c at i o n , E xp e r i e n c e, Kn o w l e d g e, S k i ll s a n d A b i l i t i e s ) :
• Associates Degree with three (3) + years of experience or five (5)+ years of relevant experience.
• Three (3)+ years’ experience in supply chain or operations management.
• Basic knowledge of traffic and freight laws.
• Experience using a Traffic Management System (TMS).
• A proven ability to proactively address situations before they become problems.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work positively as a part of a team.
• Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to adapt to the audience and professionally communicate with a variety of people.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain and/or a related field.
• Experience using an ERP or MRP system.
• Flatbed freight experience.
• A proven ability to implement and sustain lean manufacturing principles.
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Work is typically performed in an office setting, with occasional visits to manufacturing settings. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and visit manufacturing facilities. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. When in the production facility, the employee will be required to wear close-toed shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection.
