2nd Shift (3:30 pm - 2:00 am; M - Th + OT)
Starting Wage $20.27/hr + $1 shift differential
The Brake Operator is an Individual Contributor responsible for the operation of the press brake to bend trapezoids into pole shafts. The incumbent is responsible for aligning and measuring material, transferring sheets using an overhead crane and conveyor, and general machine upkeep.
Essential Functions:
Prepare, load, and move metal sheets onto the conveyor of the brake press
Bend metal sheet using the brake press
Enter data into the brake press computer
Inspect each product once bent to ensure that the bend was correct
Send metal sheet to seaming operation after brake press procedures
Other duties as required and/or assigned
Important Details about the Role
Read and decipher blueprints and flat sheets correctly
Use and read both regular and Outside Diameter (OD) tape measures accurately
Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
The employee must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer
The employee has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, and delivery
This position reports to the Production Supervisor
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings
The ability to read a tape measure
The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment
The ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 pounds
Capable of performing simple math, fractions and fraction to decimal conversions
Ability to become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of a forklift and overhead crane
High awareness for safety at all times
Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facility
Read blueprints and specifications
Maintain a safe and productive working environment
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
One (1) year of previous experience reading and interpreting blueprints and flats sheets in a professional environment
One (1) year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
Six (6) months of previous experience operating a brake press in a professional environment
Knowledge of basic programming and set-up of PLC controlled machinery
The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
Close attention to detail and follow work instructions
Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
