A Brief Summary of This Position
This is a CDL, Class A driver position driving a tractor/trailer combination making daily runs between the Columbus and Valley, NE sites. The product ranges from plate steel, pole shafts, finished pole assemblies and palleted parts. All must be properly secured onto 48’ - 53’ flatbed trailers. A drop and hook situation will be frequent.
Essential Functions:
Operate equipment and vehicles safely, protecting self and others from accident and injury
Driving tractor / trailer between Valley and Columbus sites
Perform daily vehicle inspections on tractor and trailer as required under Part 393 and 396 of the FMCSR
Fueling tractor
Properly secure cargo utilizing compliant straps, chains and binders on flatbed trailers
Preform daily inspection of straps, chains and binders to ensure compliance with Part 393.102 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
Maintain compliance with FMCSR, Department of Transportation (DOT) HOS as described in Part 395 of the FMCSR
Operating Omnitracs device for hours or service (HOS) and mileage tracking
Maintain all necessary DOT required documents for record keeping requirements
During non driving time, the incumbent will be required to perform other tasks as trained, including but not limited to welding, machine operation, grinding or assisting with the Shipping department.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as per section 383 of the FMCSR
Be physically qualified to operate a commercial vehicle and obtain a Medical Examiners Certificate as per the requirements of Subpart E, Section 391 of the FMCSR
Two years of previous experience driving a commercial truck in a professional environment, OR 1 year experience plus accredited truck driving school graduation or accredited truck driving school graduation and at least 1 year of welding or machine operation experience.
No DUI / DWI in the past 5 years
No positive DOT drug and alcohol test in last 10 years
No more than 3 moving violations in previous 5 years
No speeding tickets equal to or greater than 15 mph in previous 5 years
No other vehicle moving violations
The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
The ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and work in extreme weather conditions
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly qualified candidates will also possess:
Previous experience operating a forklift
Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
