Essential Functions:
Reads and interprets work orders and daily production schedules.
Reads and interprets drawing/specifications to determine proper location of attachments, weld sizes and configurations.
Use GMAW and FCAW processes to weld small and large components
Use SAW process for structural welds
Performs all functions associated with operation of the robotic welding machine. Start-up and shutdown procedures. Transfer of programs to and from the host computer, setting up the programs to produce required products, originating programs from standard shapes, modifying programs when needed.
Understands all functions on the robotic welding machine, i.e. plasma cutting tips/nozzle size and speed charts, welding procedures, amperage settings, controller to computer, and appropriate instruction manuals.
Properly positions pole and arm assemblies for welding.
Properly positions component parts and assemblies for welding.
Adjust welding machines to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures.
Performs visual inspections to ensure that welds AWS specifications
Use weld gauges to measure standard and metric weld sizes
Cut steel using oxy-fuel and plasma-arc cutting torch
Operate assembly line conveyor system to move tubular shafts into position for cutting on band saw and for fitting
Operate band saw for cutting tubular shafts and/or pipe according to drawing
Use oxy-fuel torch to pre-heat parts in accordance with Valmont pre-heating procedure, to heat straighten as needed and pre-camber assemblies per drawing
Use pneumatic and manual tools
Required to operate a forklift provided employee is qualified
Required to use overhead/jib cranes provided employee is certified
Use automated welding processes in areas requiring SAW certification
Use mechanical radius tube bending machine to radius arms per drawing
Use hydraulic press to punch, crimp, notch, and radius arm assemblies and pipe bender to build bullhorn assemblies (Exclusive to Arms Department)
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Six months experience working as a welder, or a graduate of an acceptable Technical Welding Program
Must be able to pass rotational weld certification test
Must be PC literate (software, Windows, etc.)
Read and write in English
Proficient in manufacturing math; adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. (Uses tables to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions)
Experience with measuring tape, level, square, and angle finder to measure distances and angles
Wears of protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, leather sleeves, weld apron, and welding hood (PPE)
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
One year experience as a Welder and a graduate of an acceptable Technical Welding Program
PC literate (PLC software, Windows, etc.)
Certified Forklift and Crane operator
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Ambient temperatures in work area coincide with seasonal weather changes. Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes. Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring that hearing protection worn at all times. Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters.
Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection. There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
