Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Clerk that is responsible for providing environmental, health and safety support and helping to ensure that all practices are in compliance with Valmont policies and local, State and Federal rules and regulations. This position is responsible for helping the EHS Manager coordinate regulatory programs and permitting activities. The incumbent will support the development and coordination of training programs in accordance with site and organizational programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Consult with all departments on use of equipment, fire prevention, health and safety programs

  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations, and participate in hearings as needed

  • Participate in the administration of workers compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims

  • Help conduct regular safety inspection tours of facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated

  • Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs

  • Be proficient in managing OSHA reports and record keeping and help maintain safety files and records

  • Help devise, supervise, and coordinate mandatory and voluntary training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness

  • Assist with safety specific new employee orientation

  • Assist with the completion and record-keeping of routine environmental permit activities

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • This position reports to the EHS Manager

  • Assist with the coordination of the monthly safety committee meeting

  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Minimum two years’ experience in a manufacturing or related environment

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and general public

  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment

  • Must have a high awareness of safety at all times

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety management or science-related field

  • One year of experience in a safety and/or environmental related position

  • Proficiency with EHS, business and manufacturing software such as IFS®, Intelex®, SAP Concur® and LMS®

  • Previous experience training others

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification

  • Department of Transportation (DOT) Waste training

  • Experience working with environmental permits and associated activities
