The ideal candidate would be based out of Aurora, Colorado or willing to relocate to Aurora, Colorado. Omaha, Nebraska will be an alternate location for this position.

A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Project Manager - Solar is a centralized leader in the North America Solar team, responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects. The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for overall execution, profitability, and customer satisfaction in the assigned market channel. This position works closely with the Sales, Business Line Management, Engineering, and Global Operations leadership team, within with the Global Generation division and other Valmont teams. This role can be based in Omaha, Nebraska, or any other location in the US as approved.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the Vice President, Global Generation and has no direct or indirect reports

  • This role requires up to 30% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays

  • This position will assist the sales team with the development of the total project scope and deliverables and will build a project plan, using this information, and then assemble a team accountable for successfully meeting project deliverables

  • The PM will assist in defining the project schedule, flagging potential risk areas, help with contingency plans and assigning resources

  • Responsible for leading, training and assessing the assigned team’s activities to meet or exceed plan objectives of the division. Including:

  • Revenue

  • Gross Profit

  • SCOT

  • Quality Occurrences

  • Sales and Operating Profit

  • Productivity

  • Total Man-hours

  • Cost adherence

  • Direct & Indirect Expense

  • Change Orders

  • Warranty Claims

  • Execution of the master project and production schedule, and the long and short-range capacity plan

  • Monitors project performance to the agreed upon plan and shipping schedules and recommends corrective action as required to ensure a high level of on-time customer shipments

  • Responds to and resolves field issues and warranty claims to the satisfaction of the customers and business

  • Coordinates with global operations and manufacturing teams to ensure execution to schedule and cost goals

  • Responsible for all aspects of ensuring a safe working environment:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission Statement and SBO plan

  • Participates in the development and implementation of the annual SBO Plan, complete those tasks assigned to this position and provides necessary support and resources to have 100% of the plan completed

  • Completes documented site safety audits annually

  • Identifies and analyzes specific problems associated with information flow, data collection, and existing computer systems

  • Works with commercial and engineering resources on executing change orders

  • Communicates on a regular and discretionary basis, departmental, divisional, and company information to the hourly and salary employees

  • Establishes and maintains a high degree of morale and initiative in department employees

  • Ability to create and execute operational plans and deliver financial results

  • Communicates with customer, when appropriate, on impacts to schedule and documents changes internally and externally

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of progress reports, requirements documentation and any presentations

  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports for the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas

  • Participate in safety audits and meetingsAdditionally, they will fully administer the contract between the customer and Valmont: identifying milestones, managing liquidated damage constraints, and maintaining effective communication with the customer to define contract deficiencies or successes. They manage all schedule, budget, and resource issues through the completion of the project, including resolving any conflict resolution either internal or external. The SPM will communicate directly with all levels of the Valmont organization and, when necessary, with the customer. They will perform a post-project report detailing lessons learned and best practices and communicate with team. The SPM will be responsible for having a broad knowledge of Valmont standards and operational performance of all facilities. They should also possess a broad knowledge of departmental and company goals, policies, and procedures. The SPM must make on the spot decisions regarding schedule changes, budget changes or resource requirements to assure the success of the project and can follow through with proper communication of those decisions to all team members. Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job. Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Liaises between the commercial organization and the operation team to ensure that business plans and processes are positioned for success

  • Interfaces with all functional roles to drive revenue and profitability for the product line

  • Identifies business and operational requirements based on customer needs, industry trends, and feedback

  • Plans and implements successful product launches in conjunction with product marketing and sales

  • Conduct project postmortems and create recommendations report for future project successes

  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management

  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support the customer requirements, business goals, and project margin

  • Conduct risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies

  • Identify key project milestones and develop a project timeline and management plan

  • Develop full scale project plans and associated communications documents

  • Proactively administer contract documents and requirements to control liquidated damage impacts

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Ability to define measurable project goals

  • Ability to develop schedules that integrate dependent and independent activities, including start-end time dependencies and time/cost estimates for activities

  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the Valmont organization, including customers and third-party contractors or consultants

  • The ability to identify potential project schedule risks and cost adherence

  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Demonstrate ability to use independent judgment and discretion

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Maintain daily project event logs and effectively develop both written and oral project status information

  • Models cooperative and team building communication skills

  • All MS Office Suite programs and General computer knowledge

  • Valid driver’s license and U.S. Passport for international travel

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Experience in the solar industry, specifically with solar trackers and/or solar plant construction

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment; directly or indirectly

  • Experience with or working understanding of quality processes

  • Understanding contract terms and associated risks

  • Understanding standard cost accounting methods

  • MS Project or other scheduling program experience

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. 30% international and domestic travel requirements for this position that include overnight stays. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
