The ideal candidate will be based out of the Denver, CO area or willing to relocate to Denver, CO. This opportunity offers a hybrid schedule.
A Brief Summary of This Position:
At Valmont Solar, the Product Quality Engineer has responsibility for overall product quality and works across multiple products, suppliers, management levels, and responsibilities to establish product specifications and manufacturing quality control methods. In this visible and hands-on role, you will enjoy important responsibilities combined with on-site problem solving that comes with overseeing the quality for some of the most important infrastructure in the renewables world today. You will develop quality tools, systems, and instrumentation for groundbreaking product designs for green energy applications.
This position reports to the Senior Program Manager and has no direct reports or indirect reports at this time; as the business grows this role is expected to include team leadership responsibilities
Apply understanding of quality control and manufacturing concepts to lead the development of specific Quality Control Plans (QCP) appropriate to the program or commodity
This role will assist with the development of new product processes to ensure the best product is produced to meet customer, reliability, and design requirements
As the product quality representative, you will be working with the Design Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality teams on new products to drive Quality/Reliability in the designs
Work closely with cross-organizational teams (R&D, Operations, Finance, IT, Services, Customer Experience, etc.) to identify issues and opportunities in the new product development process and to translate customer needs into product functional requirements and specifications
Qualify and implement groundbreaking quality inspection tools including visual and instrumental processes
Lead Risk Assessments (Design and Manufacturing) for NPD projects during the product development cycle
Analyze, draw conclusions, report and present product information utilizing statistical techniques
Lead root cause and corrective action activities utilizing systematic processes and tools
Prepare summary of performance and communicate to appropriate broader team and management
Other Important Details about the Role:
Approximately 25% travel required including international travel
This position has no direct reports
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience OR Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience OR 10+ years of relevant experience
Relentless curiosity and a desire to learn and implement new solutions with strong technical expertise
Ability to work/influence others across a matrix organization on courses of action with minimal assistance
Effectively operate in cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to utilize quality concepts including but not limited to Quality Plans, APQP principles, FMEA, audits, corrective and preventative actions, sampling methodologies, and process capabilities
Ability to utilize problem solving tools including root cause analysis and statistical process control principles
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Engineering Degree preferred
5-8 years’ experience in a quality engineering position working with new product development is preferred
Prior Solar experience preferred
Lean experience preferred
International manufacturing experience is preferred

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The position may require approximately 25% travel including international travel. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
