A Brief Summary of This Position
The Business Line Manager works to improve the organization’s market position and achieve financial growth. In collaboration with the product, engineering and commercial teams, this person works to define long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The Business Line Manager will work with commercial sales, product line managers, project administrators, marketing staff, and other managers to increase sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for the Solar Division and the Utility segment. To be successful, this position needs to find potential new customers, present to them, ultimately convert them into clients, and continue to grow business in the future. The person shall call on clients, often being required to make presentations on solutions and services that meet or predict their clients’ future needs.
The ideal candidate would be based out of Denver, CO or willing to relocate to Denver.
Important Details about the Role
Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators
Works with the resources within the solar groups and the commercial teams to identify the business and operational requirements based upon customer needs and market feedback
Assists internal stakeholders to develop any new product introduction plan based on voice of the customer input and market research
Motivated to learn all aspects of the concrete business segment
Analyze the customer detail and market potential to provide product forecast guidance
Works with internal stakeholders to achieve product-segment target results utilizing KPIs
Explore product utilization in new or developing markets in or outside of the utility division
Assists internal stakeholders with special projects to further the improvement of the solar operations and growth
Implement common practices for pricing and proposals from Valmont Utility best practices
Analyze the competitive landscape through collaboration with the commercial team and solar business units to determine market capacity and provide guidance on margins and lead times
Researches and understands price/value in each respective segment and assists solar Operations to optimize gross profit margin
Provides financial analysis on product line profitability for current and potential customers or projects
Works with Sales and Operations team to deploy product plan and ensure clear communication of product segment objectives
Coordinates with the individual manufacturing sites the analysis of bids and forecast to determine win / loss ratios to provide quote strategy by customer type and region
Assists in the marketing plan development for new product introductions within the product segment
Works closely with the Marketing Department to develop, fund and execute, ROI-based integrated marketing communications campaigns that influence target audiences and grow sales. Develops and implements a brand strategy as appropriate.
Works with both operations and sales to maximize productivity while not over committing resources
Lead financial and contract review portion of all executive reviews
Provides timely and consistent communication on the analysis of market share and competitive landscape to divisional shareholders
Effectively communicates and trains the business development and sales force on the product strategy / plan
Develops and communicates responses and company positions in response to product specific challenges
Communicates the current win / loss opportunity detail to the sales, operations, and business development team
Product Segment results and progress towards Division goals and associated metrics
Other various metrics as defined by Division management team
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Bachelor’s with 7+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 9+ years relevant experience of 11+ years of relevant experience
Solar Manufacturing Experience
Demonstrated mathematical aptitude, exceptional financial acumen
Decisive problem-solving ability and capability to assess people and situations with accuracy
Confident self-starter with integrity and accountability
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Highly motivated, competitive, and entrepreneurial individual with a desire to tackle challenging opportunities
Must be able to effectively and persuasively present complex information in a simple way to executive level audiences
Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to travel up to 25%
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business or Engineering
Business Management or Engineering degree
Five years’ experience in Solar with significant exposure to sales, engineering, and operations
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Up to 25% travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
