A Brief Summary of This Position:
The position is responsible for Valley Science and Engineering accounting including forecasting, profitability analysis and preparation of the annual operating plan. In addition to overseeing the invoicing function fixed asset accounting, the position is also very involved in the collection of data and analysis of VSE operations. In this role, there is a close working relationship with all levels with the VSE organization. The position is also responsible for the monitoring and reporting of SG&A expenses and coordination with department managers and supervisors in reviewing the information.
Direct development, preparation and maintenance of VSE annual budgets including audit and reporting financial and statistical progress around budges
Direct accounting functions of VSE operations
Assist in development of Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and facility the AOP process of VSE
Track, monitor, analyze, and make recommendations regarding financial indicators for VSE
Prioritize, approve, and track variable indirect expense requests for VSE employees.
Monitor fixed costs for VSE and evaluate the most efficient means of spending VSE funds in order to leverage current and future structure
Communicate with Valmont regarding VSE financial performance on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, and maintain relationships with banking institutions and leasing agencies.
Provide accurate, timely reporting of information to fellow managers to use for decisions making purposes as well as working with the Leadership to monitor authorized contracts, utilization, actual productivity and project margins for VSE staff and projects.
Establish and administer accounting policies and procedures, and assist with development of company policies and procedures for VSE and ensuring VSE is in compliance with laws and regulations.
Ensure accuracy of VSE financials and prepare quarterly and annual work papers for internal and external audit proceedings i.e.: timely vendor payments, accurate client billing process, and an active collection program, ensuring proper revenue recognition as well as matching expenses and revenue in the appropriate fiscal periods, ensuring adequate internal controls, protections and use of company assets and assessing and ensuring that accruals are maintained at an acceptable level in order to cover potential liabilities
This position reports into the General Manager and has (4) direct reports and (0) indirect reports
This role requires up to 5% travel (internationally/domestically), including occasional overnight stays
Flexible schedule, however must be able to work in the office at least 2 days per week
Other Important Details about the Role:
- Ensure all documentation associated with client and vendor contracts, subcontractor agreements, insurance, and all other applicable legal business correspondence are current and maintained in an organized accessible fashion
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Preferred bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience or Associates Degree in Accounting with 8+ year’s relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience.
Supervisory experience as well as team building experience
Strong knowledge of financial statements and GAAP
Excellent analytical skills and demonstrative attention to detail
Ability to manage time and priorities and to plan and organize orderly procedures to meet deadlines and objectives
Judgement and decision making skills
Deductive reasoning ability to formulate accurate answers to specific questions.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a related accounting or finance field
Previous work in a consulting industry
Experience with Deltek Vision

Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. This position required up to 5% travel, including overnight stays, for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
