Shift: 1st, M-F 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with overtime as needed

Compensation: $27.30/hour

A Brief Summary of This Position

This is an individual contributor position responsible for the safe and consistent operations of the Chemical Process Tank (CPT), process tank chemistry, and zinc baths chemistry. The Utility Relief Operator will monitor and ensure all process tanks and kettle alloying meet all of the quality standards. Incumbent will coordinate and track purchases of chemicals and alloys. The Utility Relief Operator may be asked work at or with other Coatings sites in a cooperative effort to trouble shoot and solve local issues. Incumbent is responsible for the coordination of Chemical Process Tank Technician personnel to accomplish tasks specific to process chemicals, process tanks, and zinc baths. The Utility Relief Operator is also responsible generating reports to provide material usage, tank chemistries, and process tank waste and performing preventative maintenance and repairs of process tanks, CPT system and other equipment. Additional duties include assisting in general plant clean up, and housekeeping, and working safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Essential Functions

  • Adjust flow rates, add acid and maintain fluid levels and temperatures in the galvanizing processing tanks.

  • Monitor the RO system and add nickel and albumin to the kettle as needed

  • Go under the tanks to check for leaks and report tank/kettle issues to Maintenance Supervisor and/or Lead

  • Coordinate schedules and specific tasks for CPT personnel including preventative maintenance schedules

  • Analyze chemicals in the galvanizing process tanks

  • Lift, move, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout the plant as needed

  • Operate screwdrivers, wrenches, and cutting tools to perform maintenance on the galvanizing process tanks

  • Operate a computer and work in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and all shop personnel through notes, e-mail, and verbal communication

  • Wear a respirator for extended periods of time

  • Maintain current MSDS/SDS information books for the plant

  • Operate forklift and provide forklift knowledge and training to less-experienced CPT technicians

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Assist in operating the MZR machine

  • Perform CPT Technician duties as needed

  • Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Three years minimum experience working with Chemical Process Tanks

  • One year minimum experience operating an overhead bridge crane

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • The ability to perform simple chemical testing and analysis

  • A strong understanding of the company’s policies and procedures regarding chemical materials and disposal

  • The ability to stand and/or walk for up to 95% of the shift

  • The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds

  • The ability to make sound decisions based on technical data

  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

  • High awareness for safety, including the ability to recognize hazardous substances and to know basic employee responsibilities for chemical safety

  • The ability to work with exposure to sulfuric acid

  • The ability to work overtime as needed

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience working with CPT and in a galvanizing environment

  • Five or more years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

  • Three or more years of experience operating hand and / or power tools

  • Three or more years of experience with overhead crane operations
